Neema International is a non-profit organization based in the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania, who is dedicated to breaking down the cycle of poverty through education, community engagement, and sustainable development.

74% of children in Tanzania are affected by multidimensional poverty. Mothers have an average of 5-10 kids in the poorest villages. Because of this birth rate, 44% of the population is under 15 years old. These rates leave many children orphaned, without the healthcare, education or positive support they need to escape the cycle.
The Problem
Poverty negatively impacts brain development and well-being. Poor child development and significant adverse childhood experience will not only harm that individual child’s future but can also have an extremely detrimental effect of the future of their society as a whole— in other words, the cost of inaction could truly be catastrophic and create even greater barriers to prosperity and success for future generations
Our Solution
We’re empowering the community of Uru, Tanzania and its children by alleviating the cycle of poverty from a multilateral approach, helping them get the education, life skills and confidence they need to break free from poverty. The force of their combined efforts starts a powerful ripple effect that empowers children and youth to change their own lives and futures, transforming their families and communities too.

Social Enterprise
To fund our innovative projects, Neema International employs village mamas in our social enterprise, Neema Bags.
Our projects focus on three key outcomes.
Education.
With the help of your sponsorship, we break down the barriers that keep children from getting a quality education, including mentorship, earlier English instruction, learning spaces, access to technology, and more.
Health.
We provide crucial education and health resources to vulnerable children within the family and community context. We respond to family stressors or emergencies by providing the social work, healthcare and advice they need; including emphasizing family planning.
Empowerment.
To truly end the cycle of poverty, children must feel hopeful for the future and see possibilities for themselves and their community beyond the circumstances. Without quality adult relationships, life skills, and coping mechanisms, they are unable to overcome their environment and thus continue the cycle of poverty.
